Sometimes, young people with higher pitched voices have trouble enrolling in Dragon NaturallySpeaking. The problem is usually confined to teenage girls with immature voices. One possible solution is to enroll the students using the TEEN option, which adjusts for the pitch of young speakers. Here's what you do:

1. Insert your installation CD into the CD drive. You will need this CD to install the Teen option.

2. Start Dragon, and in either the Open User or Manage Users dialog box, choose NEW. (Choose NaturallySpeaking, Manage Users to open the Manage Users dialog box if it doesn't automatically appear on the screen at startup.)

3. Have your student enter a new (different) name... it must be different than any previous name. ON THIS VERY SAME SCREEN, choose the down arrow next to the Vocabulary selection box. This is located to the left of the Advanced button.

4. From the pulldown list choose Teens. (Note: New code will be added to accommodate a high-pitched teenage voices.)

5. Choose Next and continue normally.

Important to notes:

  • Advise your student to enunciate more clearly.
  • Don't be afraid to hit the SKIP button if enrollment stalls or gets stuck after three tries repeating the same dialog.
  • Pause between repetitions.
