Backup and Export Your User Profile
Before you Export your file to your local network ,
USB Flash Drive or other external storage, make sure you save the
changes to your user profile. This way, all of the improvements and
corrections you have made to your speech user file will be available
to you on your next session.
Step 1: Say Save User Files (or
click Naturally Speaking, Save User Files). NaturallySpeaking
will save changes to your user file on your local hard drive.
Step 2: Say Manage Users (or click NaturallySpeaking/Manage Users)
Step 3: Choose your user name and say
or choose Advanced followed by Export.
Step 4: Export your files to a safe drive, either
on your network, on a rewritable CD, USB Flash Drive or to a zip drive
with at least 256 MB of storage capacity.
Step 5: Upon starting your next session, Import your
user file. Click NaturallySpeaking, Manage Users, Advanced,
Import. Browse to your exported user file and click OK.
Close the Manage Users dialog box
.
Step 6: Open your file by choosing NaturallySpeaking,
Open User and choosing your name from the list.
NOTE: This feature exports/imports the last saved “copy”
of the user profile. The original profile still resides on the default
location on the hard drive. If you do not have a security software
such as Deep Freeze or Clean Slate that wipes the hard drive clean
when the computer shuts down, then the user does not have to import
a profile from the external location every time he/she wants to use
it. However, it is a good strategy to export student profiles to an
external location in case their profile becomes corrupt or the hard
drive crashes, etc.
This feature is also handy when moving a student from one computer
to another. The instructor can export their profile to a flash drive
or folder on the server and import it at a different machine.
