About Dragon Versions & Capabilities
PC
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 works with Microsoft Windows XP or Windows
Professional. All versions require a minimum of 512 MB of RAM and
an Intel® Pentium® 4/ 1GHz processor (or equivalent AMD processor)--faster
processors will yield faster performance!
MacIntosh
NaturallySpeaking 9 does work on the MacIntosh with the following
components: a recent Intel-based Mac, Apple's free Boot Camp Utility,
a copy of Windows XP, and a USB adapter on the headset. The computer
may also need to be restarted in Windows each time you want to use
NaturallySpeaking.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred is the product version designed for most everyday users and schools. Available at hundreds of dollars below the Professional version, Preferred packs all the punch most educators, students, writers, and business people require. Capable of learning from its mistakes to improve upon its already outstanding accuracy, NatSpeak 9 is packed with Natural Language Technology (NLT) commands for use with Microsoft® Word, Excel®, Internet Explorer®, Outlook® Express, Corel® WordPerfect® and AOL®, Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 is also integrated with Firefox® and Thunderbird® from Mozilla. Plus, new support for non-standard edit controls means you get full Dragon functionally, such as Select-and-Say, allowing you to edit more easily than ever before.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking Standard
Standard, and other scaled-down versions of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, is not suitable for Microsoft Office applications beyond Microsoft Word. It also doesn't allow voice-macros and other such important error correction and improvement features. It's an unsuitable choice for the business education classroom, especially given the reduced price of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred licenses.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional
Professional is perhaps overkill for most business education classrooms. However, its power and ability to move into the medical, legal, and other professions is impressive. Professional is a customizable/programmable version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking that is used to create customized solutions for businesses.
The Professional version allows specially trained Dragon NaturallySpeaking experts to create macros that can be shared across an entire corporation. For example, Professional allows the creation of voice macros that can launch a sales database, an insurance form, a legal brief, a police report, fill in the necessary boilerplate, and take the user to the exact spot starting point they require. The Professional version can save companies millions of dollars by increasing productivity. There are separate versions of Professional with customized vocabularies for the medical and legal organizations.
