About Dragon Versions & Capabilities
PC
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 works with Windows Vista™, Windows
XP SP2, Windows Server 2000 or 2003 and Win 2000 SP4 or higher. All
versions require a minimum of 512 MB of RAM (1GB for Windows Vista™)
and an Intel® Pentium® / 1GHz processor (or equivalent AMD
processor)--faster processors will yield faster performance!
MacIntosh
NaturallySpeaking 10 does work on the MacIntosh with the following
components: a recent Intel-based Mac, Apple's free Boot Camp Utility,
a copy of Windows XP, and a USB adapter on the headset. The computer
may also need to be restarted in Windows each time you want to use
NaturallySpeaking. (MacSpeech is actually recommended for MacIntosh).
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred
Preferred is the product version designed
for most everyday users and schools. It gives small business and advanced
PC users the power to create documents, reports and e-mails three
times faster than most people type with up to 99% accuracy. Surf the
Web by voice or dictate and edit in Microsoft Word and Excel, Corel
WordPerfect, and most other Windows-based applications. Create custom
commands to insert blocks of texts or bitmaps—such as your name,
title, and signature—with a single voice command. Format and
delete text faster than ever with Quick Voice Formatting™. You
can even dictate into a handheld device when you’re away from
your PC, or use a Bluetooth wireless microphone. A high-quality headset
is included. Preferred profiles can easily be saved to external
devices such as school network and/or flash drive.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Standard
Standard, and other scaled-down versions
of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, is not suitable for Microsoft
Office applications beyond Microsoft Word. It also doesn't allow voice-macros
and other such important error correction and improvement features.
It's an unsuitable choice for the business education classroom, especially
given the reduced price of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred licenses.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional
Professional is not used in most classrooms. However, its power and
ability to move into the medical, legal, and other professions is
impressive. Some large school districts are using Professional for
the network deployment capabilities.
Professional is the ideal solution for busy corporate
professionals to create documents and e-mails, fill out forms, and
streamline workflow tasks – all by speaking. New Dragon Voice
Shortcuts collapse common tasks into simple voice commands. Or you
can create custom commands to automate repetitive tasks you perform
that involve multiple keystrokes or mouse clicks. You can even dictate
into a handheld device when you’re away from your PC, or use
a Bluetooth wireless microphone. This edition offers complete enterprise
network support, including new security features, a special management
guide for IT professionals and support for Citrix deployments.
